Song of Solomon 1-8
/“Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot sweep it away. If one were to give all the wealth of one’s house for love, it would be utterly scorned” (8:7). While the Song of Solomon celebrates romantic love, we also experience the power of sacrificial love in the relationships between parents and children or between close friends. “Love is as strong as death ... it burns like blazing fire” (8:6); love causes us to forget ourselves and seek the other’s good.
“Place me like a seal over your heart” (8:6). Ultimately, the unconditional, ever- faithful love we crave is satisfied when we come to know Christ, who gave himself for us and claims us as his own through the Spirit.
