Isaiah 45-47
/“The images that are carried about are burdensome, a burden for the weary” (46:1-2). Idol worship was rooted in seeking security, protection, and a prosperous life from ungodly sources. Isaiah declared that the idols worshipped by pagan nations (and sometimes by Israel) were not only worthless, but they also became terrible personal burdens. In contrast, for those who made Him their source, God promised: “I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you” (46:3-4).
Things like money, possessions, politics, or success can become idols that promise much but turn into heavy burdens. Jesus calls us to give up our idols and find rest in Him and His ways (Mt 11:28).
