Matthew 26

“This very night you will all fall away on account of me” (31). Jesus warned his disciples that he would soon be crucified (2) and that they would not remain loyal to him. Knowing they would all run away in his darkest hour, Jesus still broke bread with them, saying “Take, eat, this is my body” (26). He offered them the cup that was based on his sacrifice, not their own (28). Jesus’ plan to go to the cross did not depend on the disciples.

“This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins” (28). Our own faithfulness may waver, but we are securely held by God because of what Jesus did
