Judges 5-10
/“But how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family” (6:15). Gideon’s position of weakness gave him a clear heart to depend totally on the Lord for rescue. In fact, the Lord directed Gideon to thin his army down to 300 men (ch 7) so that no Israelite could claim their own strength won the battle. Afterward, Gideon resisted the temptation to take the glory, but his desire for gold led his family away from the Lord and into idolatry (8:22-27).
“The Lord is with you, mighty warrior” (6:12). We become “mighty warriors” when our desperate need causes us to cast ourselves totally on the Lord’s goodness and strength.
