Acts 6
/“It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables” (2). The twelve apostles knew that they were called specifically to “prayer and the ministry of the word” (4), so they looked for responsible men “full of the Spirit and wisdom” (3) to take over the distribution of church resources. Multiplying leadership like this led to the growth of the church (7), and these disciples, like Stephen, also became powerful witnesses through proclamation about Jesus and signs and wonders (8-10).
Whatever our role – prayer, preaching, organizing, teaching, helping – through the Spirit we can be “full of God’s grace and power” to testify to Jesus in our world (8).
