Psalm 31
/This Psalm, attributed to David, acknowledges realities of life but also feelings we experience from those realities. The first five verses reveal David’s fears of shame (v1), need of security (v2), an entrapping conspiracy against him (v4), and the need of truth to defend him (v5). Throughout the Psalm these are repeated. Yet this is a Psalm that Christ probably quoted on the cross (v5) – “Into your hands I commit my spirit; deliver me Lord my faithful God.”
David’s trust was that God would act for the sake of his own name (v4); he had seen David’s afflictions (v7), and would pull him out of the net. His praise and ours should be (v19-24) “How abundant are the good things you have stored up for those who fear you!’’
