Deuteronomy 1-2

“Do not be afraid of them. The Lord your God, who is going before you, will fight for you, as he did for you in Egypt” (1:29-30). After the deliverance from Egypt, God brought the Israelites to the edge of Canaan and said, “Go in and take possession of the land” (1:8). He expected the Israelites to trust and obey him, since they had seen his miraculous power in Egypt. God had tenderly carried them through the challenging wilderness, Moses reminded them, so they had every reason to go forward (1:30).

Looking back helps us trust the Lord for new and difficult moments. He carries us “as a father carries his son”, all the way to the end (1:29-31).
