Titus
/Titus (Titus 1:4) was assigned the difficult ministry on the island of Crete. One of their own said the Cretans were lazy liars. No matter what goodness was claimed, it was contradicted in the lives of men and women until Paul summed them up as “detestable, disobedient and worthless for any good deed, (1:10-16).”
How could Titus make a difference? He was to speak sound doctrine, addressing the sins of the society (2:1), to be an example above reproach (2:7) and to announce that Jesus Christ had given himself to redeem men and make them pure and zealous of good deeds (2:11-14). In doing so, Titus could be confident of true spiritual authority. These instructions are timeless, and if we are to be used by Christ still must be followed.
