Isaiah 61-66

These final six chapters of Isaiah are an outpouring of the passion of God. They begin with the passage actually read by Jesus in the synagogue at Nazareth (Lk. 4:16-19). He closed his reading by announcing, “Today this is fulfilled.” He was not saying that every part of the prophecy was fulfilled in detail, but that He was the fulfiller and fulfillment of it all (62:6).

Jesus is the restorer of generations of failure (61:4). Our role in prayer is to “remind the Lord” of what he already intends to do (62:6). He involves us in His work if we cooperate, but if not, He will fulfill his promise with “his own arm” (63:5). He does not try to hide (65:1-8),but reminds us that Heaven is his throne and earth his footstool (66:1)!
