“Follow me!” (19). The risen Jesus used the same words to call the disciples to a life of obedience as he did in his first encounters with them. He would soon physically return to heaven, but they were still called to “follow him” daily, being faithful to his teachings and ways through the Spirit. Peter’s love and devotion to Jesus now would be worked out through caring for Jesus’ followers (16). And each one would have to hear Jesus’ voice for their own assignment, not someone else’s (23).

“It is the Lord!” (7). The same risen Jesus wants to speak to us, guide us, and empower us by his Spirit. He has an assignment for each one of us to “follow him.”
