Psalm 54
/“Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me” (4). As the description of the psalm indicates, the “ruthless people” attacking David were King Saul and his men. Many times, David was tempted to retaliate by harming Saul, yet, because he trusted God to deliver him, he allowed Saul to escape. David wanted success, but only by God’s name, God’s might, God’s methods (1). Taking matters into his own hands, while acceptable in the world’s eyes, would have dishonored God.
“You have delivered me from all my troubles” (7). Worldly methods of fixing things or escaping trouble often lead to more trouble, but the Lord’sdeliverance always brings peace.
