II Kings 1-3

“Where now is the Lord, the God of Elijah?” (2:14). In a land filled with idolatry, the prophet Elijah stayed true to his faith in the God of Abraham, and the Lord had done mighty things through him. Now his apprentice, the prophet Elisha, carried the same bold faith forward. In contrast, King Ahaziah of Israel – despite seeing God’s power demonstrated through Elijah – called on the idol Baal when he was sick (1:1-3), showing where he thought true power resided.

“Is it because there is no God in Israel?” (1:3). Where we turn in time of trouble reveals our faith. The same God who did miracles through Elijah wants us to call on him today.
