II Kings 3-6

“You will see neither wind nor rain, yet this valley will be filled with water, and you ... will drink” (3:17-18). Despite being in “the Desert of Edom”, Elisha told the kings who were consulting him that God would fill the region with water and their enemies would be vanquished. Just as the poor widow (ch 4) and leprous Naaman discovered (ch 5), God only required his people to have faith in him. Those who trusted in idols, meanwhile, were driven to do terrible things in search of help (3:27).

“What shall we do?” (6:15). Seeking security and help from idols (money, work, status, sex, possessions, etc) ends in disaster, but the Lord’s help brings life and peace.
