John 14
/“I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth” (15-16). Jesus explained to his disciples that he would soon return to the Father, but he would not leave them “orphans” (18). The Spirit would come and dwell in them, teaching them more about Jesus, helping them to obey his commands and to continue his work (12). By the Spirit they would be “in Christ”, sharing the fellowship of the Trinity (15-21).
“My peace I give you ... Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (27). Through God’s Spirit, Jesus is alive and with us, and we have nothing to fear.
