Psalm 55

“Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken” (22). In the midst of deep distress and even betrayal by friends (4,13), the psalmist trusted in God’s sustaining presence. The pressures of his situation caused him to want to “flee far away” (7) to some distant refuge, yet he waited to see what the Lord would do. God was the one who could sort out truth from lies, right from wrong, and bring justice (15,19-21).

“He rescues me unharmed from the battle waged against me” (18). Whether we are facing spiritual battles, physical illness, or relational conflict, God is our defender and refuge. He will fight our battles.
