Jeremiah 34-37

“Read to the people from the scroll the words of the Lord” (36:6). Jeremiah was banned from the Temple, so Baruch read his scroll of prophecy to the people, urgently warning them to repent before God’s wrath came upon them. The king’s officials heard and “feared” (36:16), but when they read the Word to the king, he cut the scroll to pieces and burned it (36:23). He refused to believe that the Babylonians would attack Jerusalem (ch 37). However, Jeremiah and Baruch re-wrote the Word on the scroll (36:32).

“Perhaps ... they will each turn from their wicked ways” (36:3). God’s Word is not just good advice; it is His urgent message of salvation and life for us, if we will listen.
