Matthew 16
/“You of little faith, why are you talking among yourselves about having no bread? Do you still not understand?” (8-11). Jesus had already multiplied bread for thousands (9-10), and yet his disciples struggled to see past their daily needs to Jesus’ bigger concern: the transformation of hearts. Peter declared that Jesus was the Messiah, yet he stumbled over the Messiah’s willingness to die (22) and his call to the disciples to surrender all (24-25). The Messiah’s kingdom went far beyond their expectations.
“What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?” (26). Jesus wants to do more than meet our needs; he wants to change our desires, motivations, and dreams.
