Leviticus 6-12
/“They must make restitution in full ...” (6:5). The rituals of the Old Testament addressed broken relationships between people and between people and the Lord. If anyone stole, cheated, or destroyed something belonging to their neighbor, they repented and also repaid their neighbor, adding a fifth more. They took seriously the need to cover the loss and mend the relationship. God also commanded people to offer sacrifices according to his pattern, taking holiness seriously. When Aaron’s sons approached God carelessly, they were struck down (10:1-3).
“They shouted for joy” (9:24). Trying to manage our brokenness never works, but when we repent and receive God’s provision for our forgiveness, we experience the joy of real healing and restored relationship.
