II Timothy 1
/“What you heard from me, keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus” (13). Paul wanted Timothy to stick closely to the “sound teaching” he had received, centered on Jesus Christ. The Savior who “destroyed death” (10) also “saved us and called us to a holy life” (9). This calling was not based on “anything we have done,” but God’s grace. Timothy could count on the help of the Holy Spirit as he fulfilled his particular assignment to teach and lead others (7,14).
“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline” (7). Whatever our assignment in God’s kingdom, Jesus makes us capable through the Spirit.
