II Timothy 2:1-13
/“Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel ...” (8). Paul’s summary reminded Timothy that that the gospel centers on a real Person: God’s anointed Messiah King, who lived, died, and rose again for us. Paul warned Timothy not to be sidetracked by speculations and controversies (I Tim 6) but instead to be devoted to Jesus like an obedient and loyal soldier, an honorable, disciplined athlete, and a hardworking farmer (2:4-6).
Jesus is not an “add-on” to a self-focused life but instead the One who calls us to surrender everything to gain everything in Him (2:11-13).
