II Timothy 2:14-25
/“Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen” (14). Paul was very concerned that the believers in Ephesus were being drawn away from Christ by false teachings that were spreading like “gangrene” (17). He knew that “godless chatter,” “foolish and stupid arguments,” and “quarrels” were the devil’s methods for ruining faith and destroying relationships (16,23,26). Timothy and other leaders were called to resist being drawn into controversy and instead teach the truth about Jesus (24).
“Pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace” (22). Our society feeds on anger, conflicts, and controversy, but Jesus calls us to reject the world’s ways and pursue His kingdom.
