Philippians 1-2
/“Continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose” (2:12). In prison, knowing he might die, Paul was concerned that the Philippians conduct themselves worthy of Christ, growing in love and learning to discern what was best. In this Spirit-led process, Jesus himself was their model: “in your relationships with one another, have the same mind-set of Christ Jesus” (2:5), who humbled himself all the way to death.
“In humility value others above yourselves” (2:3). In a world where everyone seeks to win, humility is risky. But the way of the cross is how God’s good purposes are fulfilled.
