Psalm 118
/This Psalm, writer unknown, was probably used in the temple worship. After clearly stating the theme of the Psalm to be unceasing praise to God (vs1-4), the writer, in one verse (v5) defines his experience: “From my distress I called upon the Lord; He answered me and set me in a large place.”
The particulars of the writer’s distress are suggested. He faced international enemies so numerous they were like bees, but the Lord helped him (vs10-13). He chose to see these problems as discipline (v18). The Psalm ends with victory, the righteous will enter through the gate of the Lord (vs 19-21). “This the day the Lord has made,” (vs22-26), and finally, “Give thanks to the Lord,... His lovingkindness is everlasting,” (v29).
