Psalm 116-117
/“I love the Lord, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy” (116:1). From the Old Testament stories (Jacob, Hannah, Elijah) to Jesus’ encounters with the lame, blind, and demon-possessed, the Bible tells us that God responds with mercy when we call on him. When we are overcome by “distress and sorrow” (116:3), he is “full of compassion” (5). He helps us amidst situations of death, tears, and stumbling (116:8), so that we can walk with him “in the land of the living” (116:9).
“What shall I return to the Lord for all his goodness toward me?” (116:12). We can’t repay the Lord, but we can serve him with thankfulness, love, and obedience.
