Isaiah 56-60

“I live in a high and holy place, but also with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit” (57:15). Through Isaiah, God declared that he was not looking for a return to tradition; he was looking for humble, repentant people eager to follow him. Being religious wasn’t enough, because “on the day of your fasting, you do as you please and exploit all your workers” (58:3). Instead, God looked for those who wanted to participate in his work, to promote justice and set the oppressed free (58:6-8).

“For my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations” (56:7). Through Christ, God welcomes us into his house, and he calls us to open the door for others.
