Isaiah 50-55

“How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news ...who proclaim salvation” (52:7). To a people who had rebelled and were going to fall into enemy hands, God promised that “good news” was coming. Rather than helping them defeat Assyria, Babylon or another empire, God’s Servant would come to share their suffering and defeat sin itself. “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed” (53:4-5).

“For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors” (53:12). Jesus defeated our greatest enemy, suffering and dying in our place, so that we can have peace.
