Isaiah 46-49

“I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth” (49:6). Isaiah prophesied that God would send his Messiah to rescue both them and the Gentiles. One day, the Messiah would “call to the captives, ‘Come out,’ and to those in darkness, ‘Be free!’” (49:9). No matter how far they had run away, God would not forget his people. “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!”

“See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands” (49:15-16). Through Christ, God reaches out to us in mercy and calls us home.
