I Timothy 5-6
/“But godliness with contentment is great gain” (6:6). Just like today, people in Timothy’s congregation were pursuing wealth as their ultimate goal. Paul reminded them, “those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction” (6:9). Rather than allowing their wealth to harm them or destroy relationships, Paul said, they should use it for the well-being of others. “Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share” (6:18).
Wealth and the earthly things we pursue are “so uncertain,” but God “richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment” (6:16).
