I Timothy 3-4
/“...you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth” (3:4). To elders, deacons, and pastors like young Timothy, Paul wrote that “life and doctrine” are meant to work closely together (4:16). Those who are maturing in the faith show certain behaviors like being self-controlled, gentle, and hospitable (3:2-3) because they are growing closer to Christ. Paul says, “the mystery from which true godliness springs is great” (3:16) – Jesus himself, our Savior and example.
Following Christ means we open our lives to the Spirit’s work, seeking to grow “in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity” (4:12).
