Psalm 115

“Not to us, LORD, not to us, but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness” (1). The problem with idols, the psalmist says, is that they are “silver and gold, made by human hands” (4). Worshiping them is like worshiping ourselves. But the real God is in heaven, beyond our authority (3), and he is our “help and shield” (9). If we worship things that we control and make, whether idols or beautiful homes, careers, and pleasures, we find a dead end. “Those who make them will be like them” (8).

Instead, we worship and serve the Living God. The One who is beyond our control “remembers us and will bless us” (12).
