Psalm108
/“Give us aid against the enemy, for human help is worthless” (12). At times Israel made the mistake of turning to earthly military powers for help (Egypt, or Assyria). But turning to them meant that God was not their defender (11), and through their trials they realized that He was their only Savior. “Save us and help us with your right hand, that those you love may be delivered” (6). Only with God will we gain real victory over inward temptations or outward attacks (13).
“My heart is steadfast, O God” (1). God in Christ is our defender against all the “powers of this dark world” that threaten us (Eph. 6:12). Like Israel, we are called to steadfastly trust Him alone.
