Job 1-4

“Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil” (1:8). Job was everything a man should be: devoted to God, successful and respected. He cared deeply for his children (1:5); he had lived a good life (1:1). Job ‘deserved’ to enjoy peace and the fruit of his labors, but instead, he lost his children, his wealth, and his health. His grief drove him to his knees, yet he did not despise God (2:21).

“Does Job fear God for nothing?” (1:9). Doing good will not guarantee a trouble-free life. Mature faith is when we trust our Father through both sweet and bitter circumstances.
