Psalm 87

“He has founded his city on the holy mountain. The Lord loves the gates of Zion more than all the other dwellings of Jacob” (1-2). Centuries before Christ came, the psalmist wrote that God would extend his love and favor for “Zion” (Israel) to the whole world, even to Israel’s traditional enemies: “I will record Rahab and Babylon among those who acknowledge me—Philistia too, and Tyre, along with Cush—and will say, ‘This one was born in Zion.’” Through Christ, we are all ‘natural born’ citizens of God’s kingdom, the holy Zion.

“Glorious things are said of you, city of God” (3). From every nation, united by Jesus, the people of God are a glorious sign of his loving reign.
