Psalms 88-89

“LORD, you are the God who saves me; day and night I cry out to you” (88:1). Pouring out his heart to the Lord, the psalmist cried that he was “overwhelmed with troubles” and in “the darkest depths” (88:3,6). He knew of God’s righteousness, justice, love, and faithfulness (89:14), yet his present reality was only grief and sorrow. Like Israel as a nation when they were attacked, the psalmist felt forgotten. “How long, Lord? Will you hide yourself forever?” (89:46). Still, he clung to the Lord’s “great love” (89:1).

“Your love stands firm forever” (89:2). Even when all we can see are difficult circumstances, God’s love endures. He meets us in our troubles and shows us his faithfulness.
