Acts 9

“Saul got up from the ground, but when he opened his eyes he could see nothing. So they led him by the hand into Damascus. For three days he was blind, and did not eat or drink anything” (8-9). Before meeting Jesus personally, Saul had been completely, arrogantly confident that his view was right. As a Pharisee, expert in Jewish law, Saul felt justified in persecuting followers of Jesus who did not fit his idea of orthodoxy. But after encountering Jesus, Saul’s temporary helplessness helped convince him of his spiritual blindness and need.

“I am Jesus” (5). When we truly encounter Jesus Christ, our pride and self- justification crumbles. We stop condemning others because we realize our own need for forgiveness.
