Psalm 7

“Bring to an end the violence of the wicked and make the righteous secure— you, the righteous God who probes minds and hearts” (9). The psalmist took comfort in the fact that God determines good and evil, and he also sees into human hearts. Although humans try to justify their sins, God sits enthroned above all, and his Word defines justice (6-9). He is a “righteous judge”, and he is our “shield” when we follow his ways and submit our lives to his judgment, not the world’s.

“Lord my God, I take refuge in you” (1). When we make God’s ways our guide instead of our own desires, or ‘what works’, or the norms of society, his kingdom becomes our refuge.
