Isaiah 59-60
/“For our offenses are many in your sight, and our sins testify against us” (59:12). The prophet Isaiah included all Israel in this confession, as he realized how deeply God’s people had failed: “Justice is driven back ... truth has stumbled in the streets” (59:14-15). However, God promised to bring salvation by His own action and righteousness (59:16). One day, God’s glory would light up the earth and draw people from afar to worship Him (60:1,9).
“I will make peace your governor and well-being your ruler ... you will call your walls Salvation and your gates Praise” (60:17-18). The peace and well-being we lack is freely offered through Jesus Christ, who forgives those near and far and welcomes us into His kingdom.
