III John 1

“I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth” (4). Continuing his emphasis on “walking” or living out the truth, John applauded Gaius for showing generous hospitality to believers who were traveling “for the sake of the Name” (7). While false leaders like Diotrephes objected to this generosity and even taught against it (9), John believed this support was crucial. He urged believers to “show hospitality to such people so that we may work together for the truth” (8).

“Anyone who does what is good is from God” (11). The saving love of Christ, according to John, changes our hearts and causes us to see and treat others with that same love.
