Joshua 10-11
/“Surely the Lord was fighting for Israel!” (10:14). Just as God led the Israelites miraculously out of Egypt, the idolatrous Canaanite tribes were defeated by God, not Israel’s strength. When there was sin among the Israelites, they lost God’s favor and lost battles (ch 7). But when they were faithful to God, he fought for them even with hailstones (10:11) and the sun itself (10:13). God’s plan for Israel was to make himself known through them, both his righteousness standards and his faithfulness toward those who love him.
“The Lord, the God of Israel, fought for Israel” (10:42). When we make God our refuge, he fights for us against the “spiritual forces of evil” (Eph 6:12), and we are safe.
