Luke 3-4
/“All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips” (4:26). Jesus’ own people were thrilled that he was fulfilling Isaiah’s prophesies, healing the sick and setting prisoners free (18), but they suddenly became furious (28). The problem came when Jesus mentioned the healings of the Gentiles: the widow of Zarephath and Naaman of Syria (27). Jesus came for the whole world, as Luke’s genealogy points out, tracing his lineage past Abraham, to Adam and God (ch 3).
“Because that is why I was sent” (43). Receiving Jesus as our Lord isn’t the whole story; as he works redemption in us, he wants to work through us for the sake of the world.
