Psalm 110

“The Lord says to my lord: ‘Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet’” (1). The psalmist celebrated the coming time when God’s chosen one – the Messiah – would reign over all (2). This holy one would be both a king who fights for his people and “a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek” (4), the mysterious priest of God Most High in Genesis 14. New Testament authors repeatedly quoted this passage, declaring its fulfillment in Jesus Christ (Mt 22:44; Acts 2:34; Heb 5:6).

“Sit at my right hand” (1). Because Jesus our Priest-King conquered sin and death for us and constantly intercedes for us at God’s right hand, we are completely secure in him.
