Psalm 42
/“My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?” (2). Having once been a person of praise and “shouts of joy”, the psalmist was now weeping day and night, feeling adrift and far away from God (3-4). He knew that the world’s comforts and entertainments would not satisfy his thirsty soul; only God could. He urged himself – and those in similar situations – to not settle for lesser answers, but to “put your hope in God” (5).
“By day the Lord directs his love, at night his song is with me” (8). Even when we don’t feel his presence, the Lord is near to us. He will once again satisfy our thirsty souls.
