Isaiah 28-31

“In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength” (30:15-16). God’s promise to Israel was that he would be their source, defender, and strength. But “you would have none of it,” Isaiah said, preferring to “flee on horses.” Instead of hiding in God’s care, they “formed an alliance, but not by my Spirit” (30:1), thinking Egypt and worldly powers could save them. Refusing to obey God, they believed lies and thought their own wealth and strength would protect them from death (28:14-15).

Our own vulnerability and weaknesses can tempt us to chase false idols, seeking security. But God invites us to the kingdom life of of “repentance and rest ... quietness and trust.”
