John 10-12
/“I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die” (11:25). Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead as a sign of his life-giving power. He wanted Mary and Martha and others to understand that God’s eternal kingdom had broken into their world; the last-day promises of healing and restoration (11:24) were present in Jesus himself. Those who believe in Jesus, although they die (even Lazarus, eventually), possess life “to the full” (10:10).
“The good shepherd lays down his life for his sheep” (10:11). Jesus took on flesh, died, and was raised again so that, instead of destruction, we can share his God-filled life, forever.
