Psalm 60

“Save us and help us with your right hand, that those you love may be delivered” (5). Israel was experiencing terrible trouble, and the psalmist suspected it was because they had angered the Lord. “You have shaken the land and torn it open ... you have shown your people desperate times” (2-3). Even so, he called on God for rescue rather than looking for support in idols or the armies of neighboring countries. “Give us aid against the enemy, for human help is worthless” (11).

“With God we will gain the victory” (12). Whether we are innocent victims or part of the trouble, God is always the solution. He comes to our rescue when we throw ourselves on his mercy.
