Mark 4-5

“Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!” (4:41). Because the Word, the eternal Son, became human, men and women saw what God was like up close. Jesus calmed a frightening storm with a word (4:49). He confronted our experiences: a man who was self-harming because of demonic oppression (5:5), a sick and dying child (5:23), and a desperate woman who had run out of options (5:25). His presence in the midst of these disasters allowed people to experience God’s compassion and healing power.

“Don’t be afraid; just believe” (5:36). The Gospels show us why we don’t have to be afraid. This same powerful and merciful Jesus is alive, and we can experience his presence today.
