Jeremiah 41-47
/“If you stay in this land, I will build you up and not tear you down; I will plant you and not uproot you” (42:10). A small remnant of Jews remained in the ruins of Judah. Amidst power struggles and violence, they were afraid of the Babylonians and wanted to flee to Egypt. Jeremiah declared God would keep them safe in Judah; instead, they ran to Egypt and sought protection from the false goddess, “the Queen of Heaven” (ch 44).
“Do not be afraid ... for I am with you and will save you” (42:11). Fear can tempt us to seek protection and comfort from ungodly sources. But when we trust God’s loving care, we find the courage to obey him.
