John 3

“Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God ...” (2). Nicodemus was impressed with Jesus’ teaching and miracles, but he was surprised when Jesus said that something more was required to enter God’s kingdom. “You must be born again” (7). Jesus went on to explain that this spiritual new birth would come not from believing things about Jesus (teachings or miracles), but by turning away from darkness and “believing in him” – putting our full trust in the Son as God’s chosen way of redemption for us (16-17).

Good information does not save us. The Light has come into the world, and we are called to abandon everything and to love, trust, and follow him (19-20).
