John 4-5

“Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem” (4:21). Jesus explained to the Samaritan woman that it was time for ethnic and culture-based arguments about religion to end; the Messiah had come. Through Jesus, both Jews and Gentiles worship the Father “in spirit and truth”, and he is the living water “welling up to eternal life” (4:14). Moses and the prophets point to him (5:39-47), and everyone sincerely seeking life and truth recognizes him (5:26).

The promises and symbols of the Old Testament, and all human longings, are fulfilled in Christ. When we hear and respond to his voice, we have life, now and for eternity (5:25).
