Psalm 38
/“Lord, do not rebuke me in your anger ... my guilt has overwhelmed me like a burden too heavy to bear” (4). The psalmist knew that some of the pain he was enduring was caused by his own sin, and he cried out for mercy (3,5- 8). At the same time, he asked for help against those who targeted him “without cause” when he was trying to do good (19-20). Whether fighting battles within himself or defending against outside conflict, he said, “my strength fails me” (10).
“Come quickly to help me, my Lord and my Savior” (22). Whether our problems are self-caused or part of the world’s general brokenness, we can take them to Jesus. He pours out mercy and grace abundantly.
